A Legal Aid Awareness Programme – Apex Professional University

About The Event

A legal Aid Awareness programme was organised by the Faculty of Legal Studies, Apex Professional University, Pasighat at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya School Yagrung, under Yagrung Circle of East Siang District. The programme was organised as field study with active support from Mr. Jacob Boko and Ms. Miti Gao for the students of LLB 5th Semester and B.A.LL.B 9th Semester students under guidance of Ms. Nargis Choudhury, Lecturer, Faculty of Legal Studies, APU. The program was conducted to make aware of legal rights, legal assistance and empower women and girls with the knowledge of their legal rights and duties, ultimately to be able to share power equally, gain full access to the means of development and to inspire a whole generation of women to work together towards achieving equality and justice.

A total number of 60 students from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya and 42 students from faculty of Legal Studies, APU participated in the awareness program and gave presentation on the following topics like offences against women and children and preventive measures, right to education, gender inequality, maintenance and maternity benifits, fundamental rights, POCSO Act, Drug Abuse, cyber crime etc. Dr. Anjuman Ara Begum, HOD, Faculty of Legal Studies, APU highlighted the prevailing gender discrimination in social and legal system which adversely impact promotion and protection of women’s rights. Legal awareness and change in the mindset of the people is required to bring an advancement in the rights of women and for men.

The Zilla Parishad Members of Bosing-I block Mrs Yason Tasung Siram express happiness for imparting awareness and others tips on the laws to the teaching staffs, students and Gaon Burahs and Gaon Burih who attended the awareness camp.

Gaon Burah Shri Talom Siram, Shri Tapang Taloh and Gaon Burih Mrs Omang Jamoh Tamuk also spoke on the event.
